2014 ~ birdie to be2

It was such a fabulous weekend over here. Every bit of it.

It started with an early Friday... which always kicks off the weekend right. We had fun dressing up and greeting all the trick-or-treaters in the neighborhood.
"Cat Burglar"
We also made our own treats: homemade nachos and margaritas. Recipes to come soon!
On Saturday, we went on a long bike ride through town.

It was such a beautiful day and 15 miles later (!!!) we returned from an amazing ride, a picnic lunch and some champagne tasting.
On Sunday, we went to a huge antique faire. If you ever happen to be up here on the first Sunday of the month or are a local... this is not to be missed. They have so much good stuff, old and refurbished. We ended up purchasing our dining room table (custom made!). So exciting getting our house in order, slowly but surely.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend as well!

I did my best to add a little decor to our home for Halloween. I have to admit, I had a good time sprucing up our entryway.
Plus, I can keep our minimal decor up for the fall (at least until Thanksgiving).
Our front porch is pretty bare... but we did get into some pumpkin carving last night. Here's an action shot of the bird and my brother:
Hope you have a fun- and candy-filled Halloween! I put off buying candy until today because I know my will power is not strong enough against my sweet tooth. But calories don't count on Halloween, right?

I purchased a few mini pumpkins in orange and white to decorate with. I opted to turn the orange ones gold. I think it was a perfect excuse to get a little crafting done!
Sometimes a diy project is the perfect therapy. :)
What you need:
- Pumpkins
- Spray paint (I used)
- Tape (if you want to keep the stems natural)
- Gloves

And here is sneak peek of our Halloween decor:
Full post to come on Friday.

Here is a fun post for more ways to decorate your pumpkins. Love the ombre pink ones!

Hope you're having a great week!

We finally got into the Halloween spirit and went to the pumpkin patch this weekend.

I have to say, I was smitten by the assortment of pumpkins and gourds this year.
We ended up picking up a couple small ones and a 'his + hers:'
Big orange one with a stem for the bird and pink for me.

I also picked up a couple minis in white and orange that I was hoping to spray paint gold. Hopefully I'll get to this diy before Friday!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Happy Friday!

Halloween is right around the corner... and I haven't planned a thing. We don't have costumes, pumpkins or plans. That's what this weekend is for, right?

Here are 5 festive links to get into Halloween mode:
Doughnut pumpkins // Pumpkin pull apart bread // Caramel apple bar // Tablescape + garland diy // Halloween candy bark

I love the idea of leftover halloween candy bark. Such an easy recipe and a crowd pleaser the next week in the office! Here's a past recipe and guide for peppermint bark. So good. So easy.

To be honest, it isn't my favorite holiday. But I am looking forward to staying in with the bird and handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood. I always love seeing the fun costumes.

The most exciting thing we did this weekend actually happened on Thursday... I'm including it here anyway! Gooo Giants!
We went to game 5 of the championship playoffs... and not only that, but they ended up clinching the title and advanced to the World Series! Yay!
Very exciting! :)

On Sunday, we took the bicycles out for a picnic and some bubbles:
I also found a great trail near work to run a couple times per week.
Its a good loop of 1.8 miles. I swear I'll work up to going around twice. :)

I am a huge fan of Shopbop... and even more so when they have a good sale going on! Their friends and family sale just started and I am definitely going to stock up on some fall staples.

Here are a few items on my list:
Burn out clutch // Checkered scarf // Burgundy sunglasses // Quilted bag // Floral umbrella // Suede booties // Buckle tote

These booties might be the first purchase. Love the neutral gray! I also don't own anything burgundy. I think this color for a purse is perfect in the fall/winter. Get the 25% off Friends & Family discount with the code FAMILY25.

And while we're on the topic of fall goodies... did you see the new Tieks that just came out? I'm in love!
This gray wool version looks so cozy and perfect for fall!

So sad to see this weekend go. Do any of you have Columbus Day off? #lucky.

We were very productive unpacking boxes and finishing up painting this weekend. So nice to get things done and stop living out of suitcases!

Here is a beautiful sunset from the back of our home:
And a new yummy drink I discovered, mixed with a sneak peak of my desk set up.

Unpacking means finally being able to use our kitchen and cook at home again!
Our first meal was Mexican food, ground turkey burrito bowls. My favorite!

And here is a round up of sales ending today for the holiday weekend:

C. Wonder: Extra 50% off sale items.
• Macy's: Shoe + Boot sale. 30% off 3 or more pairs. Code GREAT
J. Crew: 30% off full-priced items, 40% off final sales. Code WEEKENDPLANS
• Piperlime: 20% off fall must-haves. Code FALL20
Gap: 40% off purchase. Code NEWOUTFIT

I was lucky to receive a copy of At Home with Madame Chic. I have admired the author, Jennifer Scott, since her first book Lessons with Madame Chic and through her insightful blog posts and videos.
Her books are about living your life the best you can by presenting yourself, home and family well, celebrating everyday life and making the absolute most of what we have.

One of my favorite quotes in this book is in reference to morning madness and learning to slow down, enjoy life:

"Life is in the present moment... Anxiety is caused by thinking about the future."
I feel like it's so important to enjoy all life's moments and processes, not only the destinations. This was such a great reminder for me...

In this book, the author also shares her perfected 10 item wardrobe pieces, brings new meaning to 'exercise' and why it's ok not be a 'gym person,' and provides yummy recipes and hostess tips. She has a fabulous brunch layout and music playlists that really make me want to be her next house guest!

I hope to implement many of the wonderful concepts and ideas into my own life and with my own family. I especially look forward to reading this book again (one day) when our family grows and learn how so many of these things will help us to be better parents and a stronger family.

Huge congrats to Jennifer Scott for her second book, which was released yesterday! It's a keeper... and you should definitely pick up a copy!

I hope you had a great weekend! We have been moving and painting and unpacking. Sorry for all the silence and blog neglect!

Here are a couple candid shots:
Our house is looking much more in order now and we are actually starting to feel a bit settled. Ahhhh.

I am also very honored to be part of the Tieks campaign to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I absolute love my ballerina pink Tieks and am excited to sport those and these new fuchsia ones this month to bring more awareness to Breast Cancer.
And also pictured is our new kitchen rug from One Kings Lane in pretty stripes of white and gray. I am loving this site lately for home finds!

How pretty are these pumpkin displays at Whole Foods?
I am so happy to see fall is upon us. I only wish it would get out of the 100s around here... part of me is secretly loving the extended summer though. :)

And on a side note... GO GIANTS! So happy to see them in the playoffs!

I am still enjoying sandals after being in the rainy Dublin weather for two years. But fall is upon us and its almost time for shoe transition.

Loafers and booties are a few of my fall essentials this year. Looking forward to adding these to my wardrobe soon!
Kitty slipper loafer // Brown leather bootie // Leopard print loafer
Black leather bootie // Beach leather bootie // Stitch slip-on loafer // Bee Happy slipper loafer

What are some of your fall favorites that I can add to my list?? :)

I brought my big girl camera to our cooking class last weekend and after putting the pictures on my computer, I decided Relish needed a full review.
This class was so fun and all hands-on. And as a bonus, we sipped Rosé as we cooked!
Before we cooked our pizza, we learned how to make mozzarella and burrata cheese. We put some aside for the pizzas and the rest onto plates with heirloom tomatoes, pancetta and aged balsamic for appetizers and side plates.
Here's a fun action shot of my brothers flipping their dough:
Such a fun night out with the family and a fabulous way to celebrate my mom's birthday!
